This October, join a growing movement of donors putting their donor-advised funds to work — and help the Young New Yorkers' Chorus keep building a home for emerging singers and composers.
DAF Day 2026 is Thursday, October 8. Our goal is to inspire donors to recommend a grant to YNYC that day — whether it's your first DAF gift to us, or one more in a long history of support.
What is a donor-advised fund, anyway?
If you've ever heard the term "DAF" and nodded along without being totally sure what it meant, you're in good company — most people have. Here's the short version:
A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving account. You (or your family) contribute to it, get an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants out of it to nonprofits like YNYC — on your own timeline, whether that's right away or years later.
Right now, there's more than $250 billion sitting in DAF accounts across the country, already set aside for giving. A lot of it just hasn't found its way to a cause yet. If you're one of the many donors with a DAF, this is an easy, meaningful way to put some of that toward something that matters to you.
Why it matters for YNYC
Every DAF gift — no matter the size — helps power what makes this chorus run: rehearsal space for our two ensembles, the commissioning of bold new works, and opportunities like the Daniel Thompson Memorial Competition for Young Composers that give emerging voices a real platform.
Many of our most loyal supporters already give this way. If you have a DAF and haven't yet recommended a grant to YNYC, DAF Day is a great moment to start.
Ways to make your DAF gift count
Through your donor-advised fund, you can:
Make a general, fully tax-deductible gift to support YNYC's Invest in What's Next campaign
Recommend a recurring grant, so your support carries through the season automatically
Direct your gift toward a specific priority, like our Competition for Young Composers
However you choose to give, your DAF sponsor handles the grant directly to YNYC — quick, simple, and already tax-advantaged.
Please note that, per IRS guidelines, DAF gifts cannot be used to cover the cost of any goods or benefits received in return (for example, event tickets or a membership that includes tangible perks). A general, unrestricted gift to YNYC is always fully eligible.

Our legal name is Young New Yorkers' Chorus, Inc., and our federal tax identification number (EIN) is 36-4420273 — useful information if your DAF sponsor's directory doesn't show us under "YNYC."
If your DAF sponsor isn't listed on DAFpay, you're still welcome to give — just ask your sponsor to include your contact information with the grant so we can properly acknowledge your gift, and have them make the check payable to "Young New Yorkers' Chorus," mailed to:
